Fiduciary Advocates was created with a simple mission:
Helping plan sponsors evaluate the experts they’re already relying on.
Our Story
Bob and Nathan built the firm to give plan sponsors an independent perspective that isn't tied to an investment product, an advisor, or a predetermined outcome. Before recommending a benchmarking process or an advisor search, they take the time to understand the plan, the people behind it, and where the real challenges are.
Sometimes the answer is change. Sometimes it's not. Their job is to uncover the difference. For them, that's the fun part. And it's the difference between advice that's easy to sell and advice that's right for the plan.
They’re willing to ask the hard questions, tell the truth about what they find, and stay firmly on the plan sponsor's side of the table.
Bob Foster
The Advocate
For more than 30 years, Bob has helped retirement plan sponsors navigate complex fiduciary decisions with one guiding principle: they deserve an advocate who sits on their side of the table.
After beginning his career in the commission-based financial services industry, Bob became convinced there was a better way to serve clients: through objective advice, transparent fees, and an unwavering commitment to the fiduciary standard.
In 2007, he founded the Wealth Management division at Marcotte, where he pioneered a retirement plan consulting practice centered on acting as a true co-fiduciary for plan sponsors, an approach far from the industry norm at the time.
Today, as founder and Senior Fiduciary Consultant at Fiduciary Advocates, Bob provides an independent resource for plan sponsors to evaluate advisor relationships, identify blind spots, and make informed decisions. He isn't afraid to challenge conventional thinking, providing honest guidance that helps organizations fulfill their fiduciary responsibilities and better serve their employees.
Outside of work, Bob enjoys spending time with his family, working in his yard, traveling, and the occasional round of golf.
Nathan Foster
The Translator
Nathan is a Fiduciary Consultant at Fiduciary Advocates, where he's the tech, process, and operations guy, making sure the systems, reports, and resources behind the scenes work for clients.
His specialty is translation: taking the jargon, fine print, and dense plan documents that come standard in the retirement industry and turning them into something a plan sponsor can actually use. He loves digging into the boring stuff because that's usually where the answers are hiding.
Nathan leads much of the firm's benchmarking and reporting process, looking for gaps and opportunities plan sponsors might miss. He approaches each project like a puzzle, asking questions, connecting the dots, and figuring out what the details really mean.
Ultimately, Nathan wants clients to feel like they have one less thing to worry about. He takes on the details, organizes the information, and helps plan sponsors see what matters most.
Outside of work, Nathan's priorities are his wife and kids. He's also an avid gamer, having been president of the University of Nebraska's gaming club and competed nationally. Strategy and competition are a natural fit for him.
Together
Bob challenges the status quo and advocates for the plan sponsor. Nathan makes the complicated understandable and finds clarity in the details.
